Creating Your Own Custom Widget
Want to personally select all of the books, movies, and albums that your widget contains? Then create a Custom Widget! It's a great way to showcase the items you're collecting and the pages you're visiting while browsing the web. Setup is done only once and the feed will automatically update as you add, remove, and edit from it.
You must have BlueOrganizer installed to create a custom widget. To install, click the Install BlueOrganizer button in the top right hand corner.
Steps
- Collect the items you want your widget to contain by visiting them on our supported sites and saving them into your collections. Note that when you add, edit, or remove items of this widget type your widget will automatically update with the new content.
- Fire up the SmartLink Widget wizard by selecting Make a Widget from the Toolbar Menu or clicking on the RSS icon in your My Things sidebar.
- Select the collection type of your widget.
- You can filter the items in your collection by typing in a tag or a filter. For example, if you want to publish books tagged fiction, type in fiction. If you want to publish a Murakami book widget type in [author is Haruki Murakami].
- Click Next: Configure this widget. This will publish your feed and bring up a screen to configure the widget.
- Enter in a title for your widget and configure the various widget options. Click here for a more in-depth look of widget options.
- Check out the preview of your widget. Note that it has been updating as you change the options (you can also manually update it by clicking Update Preview).
- Once you're happy with how it looks, click Next: Install this widget. Click here for help on installing this widget.
